Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mattu University!
I am honored and delighted to serve as the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mattu University, the first of its kind in Ethiopia. I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the exciting developments and achievements of our department
Our department was established in 2004EC, with the vision of becoming a leading center of excellence in mechanical engineering in Ethiopia and Africa. Our mission is to educate and inspire the next generation of mechanical engineers who can contribute to the socio-economic development and environmental sustainability of the region and the world.
Our department offers a five-year Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a Master of Science degree in industrial and management Engineering. Our curriculum is designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to solve complex engineering problems and create innovative solutions.
Our faculty members are experts in their respective fields, with extensive academic and industrial experience. They are engaged in cutting-edge research projects, funded by national and international agencies, in collaboration with other universities and industries.
Our department has three state-of-the-art laboratories, equipped with modern instruments and software, to support our teaching and research activities.
Our department is committed to providing our students with the best possible learning experience and preparing them for successful careers in industry, academia, or entrepreneurship. We also support our faculty and staff in their professional development and create a collaborative and inclusive environment for everyone.

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mattu University is to educate and inspire the next generation of mechanical engineers in Ethiopia and beyond. We provide a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that covers the fundamentals and applications of design, manufacturing, thermal, and industrial engineering. We foster a culture of innovation and excellence in research, collaborating with national and international partners to address the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
